Evenly Lit Backgrounds

A 22" beauty dish with a grid lights the subject. A silver reflector fills in the shadow side. Two identically powered flash heads illuminate the background. An incident reading from the center of the background with the dome pointing at the subject is made of each light individually. They are then adjusted until they both deliver the same reading.
The exposure is read with an incident flash meter at the subject with its dome pointed at the beauty dish. This reading is set on the camera.
A spot reflective reading is made of the background from the camera. When the reading is three stops brighter than the camera’s setting, the background will record as white.
