Animal Shelter (continuous light)

Lighting set-up for use in an animal shelter using continuous lights on white vinyl. Equipment used: Westcott TD6 Continuous cool lights (main lights) using shoot-through umbrella (Zumbrella by David Ziser), single monolights with barn doors for lighting vinyl, single monolight with barn doors for boom, two six-foot foldable tables with sheet of clear acrylic to span width of table (to cover crack in center), 6×20 white vinyl and heavy duty backdrop stands. Result is a pure white background. Continuous light is sometimes better than strobes due to the fact many animals, especially cats, are afraid of strobes and the ensuing “flash” and “pop” that occurs when they fire. Upside is you get great expressions since you can fire as fast as the camera can. Downside is continuous light isn’t incredibly bright, so you shoot with higher ISOs and wider apertures.
